Fold IrelandWillie Penrose T. D, Minister for Housing and Planning and Councillor Gerry McGuire, Mayor of Fingal officially opened FOLD Ireland’s Sheltered Housing Scheme at Chestnut Lodge, Farmleigh Woods, Whites Road, Castleknock, Dublin, 15.

This innovative project is the culmination of a partnership between FOLD Ireland Housing Association Limited and Fingal County Council.

This development which was funded by the Department of Environment Heritage and Local Government provides independent living in a social housing scheme, incorporating assistive technology backed up by a 24 hour TeleCare call centre that provides a real sense of security and confidence for older people and people living on their own.

Residents at Chestnut Lodge, live in 2 bedroom self-contained apartments.  This Housing model of accommodation ensures that older people and people living alone are given the opportunity to live independent lives within a safe, secure and supportive environment.

The Minister Willie Penrose commented: “Here we see homes being provided for people who otherwise might have had to leave their own community, friends and neighbours in order to have accommodation appropriate to their needs. Meeting housing needs in the coming years will involve an increasingly prominent role for the voluntary and co-operative sector as providers and, also, a greater role for local authorities in identifying need and facilitating delivery through the voluntary sector.”

Fold IrelandThe Mayor of Fingal, Councillor Gerry McGuire, speaking at the opening said “I am very pleased to have been invited to the official opening of Fold Ireland’s scheme at Chestnut Lodge.  Since 2001 Fold Housing Association Ireland in association with Fingal County Council has sought to provide housing, care and support for the elderly in the Fingal area.  Fold’s facility at Cherryfields, Hartstown, Dublin 15, was developed in partnership with Fingal County Council and the HSE, has been a great success and has been fully operational since 2006. I am sure the residents here at Chestnut Lodge feel very secure with the telecare supportive technology and are happy here in this lovely environment.  The Council is continuing to work with Fold Ireland and are currently involved in leasing properties at Phibblestown Wood, Ongar.  I wish the residents at Chestnut Lodge every happiness in their new homes.”
